I.
Weary of myself, and sick of asking __________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________ What I am, and what I ought to be, __________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________ At this vessel's prow I stand, which bears me __________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________ Forwards, forwards, o'er the starlit sea. __________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________ II. And a look of passionate desire __________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________ O'er the sea and to the stars I send: __________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________ "Ye who from my childhood up have caalmed me, __________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________ Calm me, ah, compose me to the end! __________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________ III. "Ah, once more," I cried, "ye stars, ye waters, __________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________ On my heart your mighty charm renew; __________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________ Still, still let me, as I gaze upon you, __________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________ Feel my soul becoming vast like you!" __________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________
IV. From the intense, clear, star-sown vault of heaven, __________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________ Over the lit sea's unquiet way, __________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________ In the rustling night-air came the answer: __________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________ "Wouldst thou be as these are? Live as they. __________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________ V. "Unaffrighted by the silence round them, __________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________ Undistracted by the sights they see, __________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________ These demand not that the things without them __________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________ Yield them love, amusement, sympathy. __________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________ VI. "And with joy the stars perform their shining, __________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________ And the sea its long, moon-silvered roll; __________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________ For self-poised they live, nor pine with noting __________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________ All the fever of some differing soul. __________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________ VII. "Bounded by themselves, and unregardful __________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________ In what state God's other works my be, __________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________ In their own tasks all their powers pouring, __________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________ These attain the mighty life you see." . . . __________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________
The Man Worthwhile By Ella Wheeler Wilcox It is easy enough to be pleasant __________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________ While life flows by like a song, __________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________ But the man worth while is the one who will smile __________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________ When everything goes dead wrong. __________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________ For the test of the heart is trouble, __________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________ And it always comes with the years, __________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________ And the smile that is worth all the praises of earth __________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________ Is the smile that shines through tears. __________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________Go to Page 2 Compliments of www.easyhomeschooling.com Visit for more FREE Copywork, Articles, and Checklists
